Quirino State University (QSU) recently commenced its Internationalization Lecture Series on March 15, 2024, which was livestreamed on the university’s Facebook page. Themed “Harmony in Science, Mathematics, and Language: Fostering Creativity through Assessment and Classroom-based Research,” the initiative aims to engage students in collaborative learning tasks with international educators, professors, and researchers.


Dr. Elizabeth T. Carig, QSU’s Vice President for Academics, Research, and Extension, gave an overview of the six-day event and warmly welcomed the participants from Adamas University (AU), India; Can Tho University (CTU), Vietnam; and the three universities from the Philippines- Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), and QSU itself. In her welcome address, she explained that the theme captures the series’ objectives, highlighting that integrating science, mathematics, and languages is catalytic in nurturing innovation, creativity, and learning experiences.


University leaders from the participating institutions delivered insightful messages. Dr. Huynh Anh Huy, Dean of the School of Education at CTU, expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to provide valuable experiences for students. Professor Shauli Mukherjee, Dean of the School of Education at AU, emphasized the significance of cultural exchange and knowledge sharing in today’s volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. Dr. Jameson H. Tan, President of BASC, expressed his gratitude to the organizers and wished for the program’s success.


The event’s keynote lecture was delivered by QSU President, Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr. He spoke about performance-based assessment and the use of rubrics, generating active participation from students across the participating universities.


In an interview, students provided their insights of the program including Jasser Ramirez. He said,” Overall, the Internationalization Lecture Series with faculty and student exchange has exceeded my expectations in terms of both content and impact. It has not only broadened my horizons as an educator but also inspired me to continue seeking out opportunities for international collaboration and cross-cultural learning.”


The program concluded with a message from Dr. Florigold V. Saldaen, Vice President for Administration and Finance. She stated that the ongoing activity is a celebration of diversity, leading higher education institutions towards international standards through professional networks.


Dr. Romiro G. Bautista, the University International Relations Officer, invited viewers to attend the succeeding lectures on March 22, April 5, 12, 19, and 26.
