𝐃𝐎𝐒𝐓 – 𝐐𝐒𝐔 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐑&𝐃 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞

February 23, 2023 – With the initiative of promoting S&T efforts for the people in Cagayan Valley, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in collaboration with Quirino State University (QSU) officially launched project dubbed “Empowering Communities Through Smart and Sustainable Initiatives in Quirino” in Diffun Quirino.

The DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang together with DOST Region 02 Regional Director Virginia G. Bilgera took part in the celebration of the activity.

“For you to be smart, you need to be technologically aware and to have policy and governance. When you embrace these, you and the whole organization will become smart, sustainable and progressive,” Usec. SAM emphasized in his message.

“If we partner with one another like SUCs and HEIs, we can do more,” he added.

Usec. SAM also challenged QSU on their game plan. He also mentioned the “Quick Wins” mantra which means S&T activities should be executed and can be translated into policies and technologies in the shortest time possible.

“We all need to embrace smart technologies for the betterment of the province,” Dr. Bilgera highlighted in her word of challenge.
She also congratulated Quirino for the successful implementation and launch of the project in developing the province,”

Meanwhile, signing of Memorandum of Agreement between the project leaders and DOST officials have been conducted towards Smart and Sustainable Quirino.

Part of the said activity is the ribbon cutting ceremony of Mushroom Research and Development Center that was attended by University President Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy Jr., Governor Dakila Carlo E. Cua, District Representative Lone District of
Quirino Hon. Mindy Cua, University Director for R&D Dr. Lauro S. Aspiras, Provincial Government of Quirino Ms. Macaria Cabe, Municipality of Aglipay Hon. Jerry T. Agsalda, among others.

With this, the agency’s goal is to promote projects and services to provinces and areas for a more sustainable and smarter city as it was also a step in economic growth.
