To provide comprehensive support and accelerate the growth of the thriving Ube Industry in the province of Quirino, Quirino State University (QSU) headed by its President Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy Jr. established an Ube Research and Development (R&D) Project in the province on 09 June 2023 at Maddela, Quirino.

This event was held at QSU Maddela Campus, and was attended by QSU Vice President Elizabeth T. Carig, DTI OIC-Provincial Director Mary Ann C. Dy, DOST Provincial Director Engr. Rocela Angelica B. Gorospe, as well as officials and faculty members of QSU Maddela.

Recognizing the growth and need for innovation, QSU has taken the lead in establishing a dedicated Ube Research and Development Project, which aims to propel the industry to new heights of productivity and marketability.

To support the research and experimentation activities, a total of two (2) hectares of land were allocated specifically for this project. Ube planting activities were also conducted on the dedicated demo farm at the campus.

The Ube R&D Project will leverage QSU’s expertise, research capabilities, and state-of-the-art facilities to conduct studies, experiments, and trials focused on enhancing Ube cultivation techniques, developing innovative Ube-based products, and addressing challenges related to storage, processing, and post-harvest practices.

This project will also promote sustainable agricultural practices and encourage the adoption of new technologies among local farmers.
The collective efforts of QSU, PGO Quirino, DTI, DOST, and other line agencies will undoubtedly pave the way for a prosperous and sustainable future for the Ube industry, solidifying Quirino’s position as a frontrunner in agricultural innovation and economic development.
