Quirino State University combined advocacy with celebration yesterday, December 17, as it concluded the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW). Held at the Diffun Campus Gymnasium, the event integrated the campaign’s closing ceremonies into the University’s annual year-end celebration.
The event commenced with a Holy Mass to bless the occasion. Rev. Noel M. Erana reminded the community of its sacred call to protect one another. He urged everyone to be the generation that says “enough” to violations and to build a safe space for all, ensuring every woman and child is protected from harm. He encouraged attendees to be beacons of peace by putting their faith into action.
In her welcome remarks, Dr. Cherry P. Collado, Chief Administrative Officer for Finance, emphasized the institution’s duty to combat VAWC. She reminded the personnel that the campaign’s central message is to “End VAWC and start to value all women and children.”
Furthermore, Dr. Elizabeth T. Carig, Vice President for Academic, Research, and Extension, stated in her message that the University’s achievements are measured not only by board exam passing rates or completed research, but by its shared commitment to a safe and respectful campus for all.
Moreover, Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, University President, shared progress on the ongoing mission to uphold Gender and Development (GAD) and the Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW). He stated that excellence must be rooted in respect and compassion, noting that the Christmas season reminds us that hope arrives even in difficult times.
The program continued with the signing of a pledge of commitment, attesting that the University collaboratively joins the efforts to end VAWC. This was followed by a lively unity dance and parlor games that added fun to the celebration.
The event concluded with a closing prayer led by Dr. Leila Sabbaluca, Supervising Administrative Officer, who expressed hope for a safe, respectful, and compassionate campus environment.
