The University Farm recently received its confirmation of compliance with the Rules and Regulations on the Certification of Philippine Good Agricultural Processes (PhilGAP) for Crops. The certification, BPI-1170-24, was issued by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) recognizing QSU’s adherence to sustainable and responsible farming as stipulated in the DA Administrative Circular 01, series 2018, encompassing all relevant national laws, rules, and regulations.
Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr., University President and Dr. Mila T. Benabise, University Director of the Auxiliary and Enterprise Development (AED) Unit, accompanied the BPI-Plant Product Safety Services Division evaluators during the farm’s national assessment on August 27, 2024. The farm achieved an outstanding 99.56 total score, excelling in soil management and irrigation; worker health, safety, and welfare; record-keeping and internal inspection; and environmental conservation.
The QSU Farm’s PhilGAP certification, which is valid until November 14, 2026, showcases the AED unit’s success in implementing effective good agricultural practices. This achievement not only ensures the production of safe and high-quality food but also strengthens the local economy while promoting environmental protection and improving the social well-being of the farm workers.
Congratulations to the AED Team on achieving PhilGAP certification for the QSU Farm! Your accomplishment is commendable.
