The Universityโ€™s Office of Sports and Wellness Development Program (SWDP) officially launched Project Move and Groove on Friday, January 30. Kicking off simultaneously across the Cabarroguis, Diffun, and Maddela campuses, the initiative signals a new era of proactive health management for students, personnel, and other stakeholders.

Project Move and Groove, an integral component of the broader Project ACTIVE, is designed as a sustainable, multi-campus program that prioritizes physical fitness and mental well-being. It offers diverse activity tracks including Zumba dance sessions tailored for cardiovascular coordination and loop-based walking, jogging, or running circuits designed to build endurance. This initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Jaimark Villamayor, University Director for Sports and Wellness.

To maximize participation without disrupting academic schedules, faculty, staff, and retirees engage in wellness sessions every Friday, while the students participate in organized activities every Monday.

Beyond physical exertion, the initiative focuses on education, safety, and recovery. Each campus features dedicated “wellness corners” where participants can access hydration, engage in guided cool-downs, and receive wellness education. The Health Services Unit (HSU) remains on-site to provide health monitoring and first-aid services to ensure the safety of participants.

Led by the SWDP Team, the launch of the project represents a significant shift toward institutionalizing holistic wellness across the University system.

Through this multifaceted approach, the University is not just hosting fitness sessions but is actively combatting non-communicable diseases and reducing stress, ensuring that wellness becomes a permanent pillar of the academic experience.
