The University and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) conducted an Orientation on Volunteerism and Partnership Review today, September 18. Held at the Conference Hall, JAA Building, Diffun Campus, the event sought to encourage and strengthen volunteerism among various departments to promote community welfare.

Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr., the University President, welcomed the PNVSCA team, led by Mr. Donald James D. Gawe, Executive Director. In his address, Director Gawe emphasized the importance of intersectoral participation in volunteerism, particularly among students at state universities and colleges (SUCs). He encouraged students to “give back to the people who supported their education,” expressing his hope that QSU would emerge as a center for volunteer efforts in the region.

The orientation was facilitated by LTC Kenneth C. Siruelo, Chief of the PATSD -PNVSCA. He introduced the agency’s mission and discussed how to strengthen volunteerism in the academe. He also shared about the Republic Act 9418, which declares the state’s policy to promote volunteerism as a strategy for national development. The act also aims to “rekindle in every Filipino the time-honored tradition of bayanihan to foster social justice, solidarity, and sustainable development.”

Key officials and representatives from the Student Government (SG), National Service Training Program (NSTP), Academics, Extension Services and Community Engagement (ESCE), Research and Development (R&D), and Administration and Finance (A&F) Departments attended the event.

The activity was held in coordination with Dr. Elizabeth T. Carig, Vice President-ARE, and Dr. Divina Gracia S. Sabio, Campus Administrator of Diffun. Dr. Florigold V. Saldaen, Vice President- A&F, also expressed her full support on volunteerism initiatives.

Building on an existing formal agreement with PNVSCA, this partnership aims to continue mobilizing the university community to engage in civic affairs, aligning with national goals and fostering a strong culture of service.
