In support to Gender and Development (GAD) advocacy, faculty and staff from all QSU campuses gathered yesterday, March 25, at the Lower Magat Eco Tourism Park, Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya, to celebrate Women’s Month. The event featured various activities designed to promote awareness of women’s rights and workplace inclusivity.
Anchored on the theme,”Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan,” the event started with fun activities in the morning, followed by a formal program in the afternoon. Director Elpidio S. Bunagan, Jr. of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Field Office served as the resource speaker, delivering an engaging talk on “Strengthening Work Ethic: Promoting Women Empowerment and Gender Equality.”
Dr. Florigold V. Saldaen officially opened the program by welcoming the participants. University President, Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr., emphasized the importance of empowering women at home, highlighting that women should be given opportunities to showcase their capabilities.
Dr. Cynthia Grace T. Valdez, GAD Focal Person, reiterated in her message the significance of inclusivity for women in society. She centered her message on the value of women, stressing that regardless of background, every woman deserves recognition. She also spoke about the remarkable transformation women undergo, from homemakers to leaders. After presenting the rationale of the activity, Dr. Emma Aspiras, University GAD Director, introduced the resource speaker.
Director Bunagan’s lecture focused on Gender Mainstreaming within the Civil Service Commission. The discussion covered the importance of inclusivity in the workplace for men, women, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). He also tackled work ethics and practices, regulations on leaves, sexual harassment, the CSC’s milestones in Gender and Development, and the Magna Carta of Women.
The event culminated with an awards ceremony recognizing senior citizens and PWDs who have provided unwavering service to the university.
Moreover, a surprise visit from entrepreneur Mr. Soc Navarro of SN Gas Trading, added a delight to the program. Mr. Navarro awarded cash gifts to married couples, along with the oldest and youngest employees of QSU.
The event served as a springboard for QSU’s continued efforts in empowering women and fostering a more progressive environment for all.
