The University partnered with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Diffun Fire Station and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO-Diffun) to conduct a joint earthquake and fire drill today, March 12, 2026 at the JAA Building, Diffun Campus. The initiative sought to strengthen the disaster preparedness and emergency response of the University.
The activity commenced with an opening message from Dr. Florigold V. Saldaen, Vice President for Administration and Finance. The session proceeded with a lecture from FO3 Joraldine S. Loñez, who discussed various safety protocols for fire disasters. He also presented fire-combating devices, the importance of emergency exits, and proper methods for using fire extinguishers among student interns and personnel.
Furthermore, Mr. Nixon H. Mallillin, Jr., LDRMMO I, shared life-saving skills, helping participants understand how to respond effectively in emergency situations. He explained basic safety actions for earthquakes, such as staying calm and performing the “Drop, Cover, and Hold” technique. Following the lectures, participants underwent a practical earthquake drill executed with the assistance of interns from the BS Criminology program.
The lecturers provided feedback based on their observations during the drill and announced that the next scheduled session will entail a fire drill. The event concluded with a message from Dr. Cherry P. Collado, Chief Administrative Officer for Finance, who emphasized the value of preparedness.
Organized by the Health Services Unit, led by Ms. Remylien C. Songco, Unit Head, in collaboration with the General Services Unit and the Philippine National Police (PNP), this initiative is crucial in maintaining a secure and productive learning and working environment for the QSU community.
