Diffun, Quirino – February 22, 2024. Following a vibrant parade, the Quirino State University officially opened the University Meet . The program was led by University President, Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr., along with the supportive vice presidents, Dr. Elizabeth T. Carig and Dr. Florigold V. Saldaen, guest speaker, Mr. Briane Acluba, other distinguished visitors, faculty, staff, athletes, and students.

Mr. Acluba, the guest speaker, further inspired the audience with his message, “Embrace the true essence of sportsmanship and competition. It’s not the number of trophies or medals, but the friendships, lessons, and memories that count more.” He also encouraged the athletes to prioritize their studies while emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, integrity, and self-discipline.
The program featured various activities, including introductions of competing clusters, a symbolic torch lighting ceremony, oaths of amateurism by athletes and officials, and a glimpse of the QSU King and Queen contestants. National SCUAA Meet 2023 badminton champions Mary Knoll Macato and Kathlyn Ancheta led the torch relay, culminating in the lighting of the torch by athletics silver medalist Mr. James Borja.
In his closing remarks, President Samoy declared the formal opening of the Triangular Meet. He emphasized the significance of “Bidlisiw,” representing the rising sun – a source of light, hope, and life – in QSU’s journey of perseverance and resilience amid challenges, while pursuing student upskilling, reskilling, and cross-skilling.
As the “Bidlisiw” theme echoes across the playing fields, the University Meet continues with various sports and socio-cultural activities around the campus.
