Dr. Elizabeth T. Carig, a Registered Professional Forester and the Vice President for Academic, Research, and Extension, has been recognized for her significant contributions to the field of Forestry and sustainable environment management. She was honored as the Outstanding Professional Forester for Region II by the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc. (SFFI).

Forester Carig was accorded this recognition during the awarding ceremony of the 2024 Annual Conference and General Assembly, themed: “Seizing the Moment: Towards Achieving Wood Self-Sufficiency and Transforming Filipino Foresters as World Leaders,” held on October 24, 2024 at the Atrium, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

The award, presented by the SFFI, acknowledges Forester Carig’s expertise, commitment, and significant impact on advancing environmental science and forestry. She led the implementation of some of the following important projects at the University, which also brought research outputs- Bambusari: A Bamboo Development Project for Sustainability and Livelihoods; SMART Coffee Propagation and Rejuvenation Technology Project; and the ongoing transformation of the arboretum located at Maria Clara, Diffun, Quirino, into a thriving forest. She also wrote and took part in the implementation of the research project titled “QSU’s Development of Clonal Propagation Protocols for Native Forests and Fruit-Bearing Trees in Quirino and Adjacent Provinces,” which was hailed as the Manila Bulletin’s UPLIFT Awardee in 2023.

Beyond academic pursuits, she is actively involved in various professional organizations and initiatives, advocating for sustainable forestry practices and promoting collaboration among stakeholders. As an extension worker, researcher, educator, and vice president, Forester Elizabeth Carig continues to inspire and elevate the standards of excellence in her field.
