Moving closer to its sustainability goals, Quirino State University (QSU) conducted a benchmarking activity at Isabela State University (ISU) – Echague Campus on April 8. Spearheaded by the University’s Project Management Unit (PMU) and focal persons from the three campuses, the visit aimed to exchange best practices and foster collaborative strategies for environmental sustainability.
A program was held commencing with welcome remarks from Dr. Artemio A. Martin, Jr., Executive Officer of the ISU Echague Campus. Following the opening, Ms. Kristine Joy Castillo, Supervising Administrative Officer, presented the objectives of the visit and introduced the representatives from each campus.
Mr. Constante G. Medina, University Director for Planning and Development, shared ISU’s effort toward sustainability in green infrastructure, renewable energy, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable campus operations.
In his message, Dr. Romiro G. Bautista, the University’s International Relations Officer, described the visit as an opportunity for “younger sibling” QSU, to learn from its “big brother,” ISU. He added, “We are here not to sharpen iron against iron, nor to ignite flame against flame but to seek answers and chart a sustainable path forward. The knowledge we acquire today will shape the legacy we leave for future generations.”
Emphasizing synergy, Dr. Gil B. Zipagan II, ISU’s University Director for Management Information Systems (MIS), noted that the activity was more than just an exchange. “This is a shared vision,” Zipagan said. “True excellence multiplies when shared. Together, we can harness the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change.”
The event featured discussions and presentations of best practices, strategies, and sustainability projects aligned with Smart Green Initiatives. Participants exchanged ideas on practical solutions for eco-friendly campus management, leading the way for actionable implementation.
To conclude the activity, attendees toured ISU’s sustainable facilities, gaining firsthand insights into the successful implementation of green initiatives across the campus.
This benchmarking activity demonstrates QSU’s dedication to sustainability, highlighting the importance of partnership, shared knowledge, and collective action in building a greener, more sustainable future.
