The University welcomed representatives from the National Book Development Board (NBDB) yesterday, October 20, for a monitoring and site visit of the Book Nook QSU Ayuyang at the Diffun Campus.
โDr. Divina Gracia S. Sabio, Campus Administrator for Diffun, expressed gratitude to the NBDB for supporting the University’s drive to nurture a culture of reading and bring the gift of literacy throughout the province. She remarked that the “book nook is more than a space filled with books; it is a space filled with possibilities, a place where imagination takes flight and where minds and hearts meet in learning.”
In his address, Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr., University President, recounted receiving his first book gift -a Bible from his father. He shared the story of Daniel, who prayed without ceasing and gained King Nebuchadnezzar’s favor after interpreting his dreams. Drawing from the many insights gained through reading, he explained the importance of investing in literacy. He concluded by thanking the NBDB for providing the institution with the opportunity to offer books to readers.
Following the preliminaries and messages, Mr. Rommel R. Reyes, NBDB Cluster Coordinator, introduced the NBDB Book Nook (BN) team. Further, Ms. Lahaina Sue C. Azarcon, BN Diffun QSU Custodian and Area Coordinator, then presented the local team, detailing their teamโs accomplishments and best practices.
After cultural presentations, both teams proceeded with the site monitoring, observation, and exit conference.
The Book Nook QSU Ayuyang, is a dedicated space for reading, storytelling, culture, and the arts, stocked with Pinoy books. This project was made possible through the proposal submitted by Ms. Lahaina Sue C. Azarcon to the NBDB in 2022, which granted the establishment of the Book Nook at the University. The NBDBโs support has been instrumental in creating this vibrant space that fosters a love for reading and Filipino culture. The University is the only Higher Education Institution in Cagayan Valley with a Book Nook Project.
This significant initiative, which promotes reading, was a contributing factor in placing the University in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) this year, ranking 342nd Top Innovative University overall and 36th worldwide in the Culture and Values category.
