The Extension Services and Community Engagement (ESCE) Department recently held the 2024 University In-house Review of On-going and Completed Extension Projects on October 18, 2024 at the Amphitheatre of the QSU Diffun Campus.
In her welcome and opening remarks, Dr. Divina Gracia S. Sabio, Campus Administrator, through Dr. Agaton P. Pattalitan, Jr., emphasized that the annual review serves not just as a venue for presenting extension project outcomes, but more importantly, “as a platform to reflect, learn, and grow.” While encouraging active participation, Dr. Sabio reminded, “Extension work is at the heart of our University’s mission to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world needs, bringing innovation and solutions directly to the communities we serve.”
Further, Dr. Fredisminda M. Dolojan, University Director of ESCE, introduced the panel of experts serving as evaluators: Dr. Biley E. Temanel and Dr. Pedrita N. Medrano, both retired Professor VI from Isabela State University (ISU); Dr. Irma T. Plata, Professor VI from ISU, and Dr. Clarisa M. Alaska, OIC Center Chief of Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).
Dr. Elizabeth T. Carig, Vice President for Academic, Research, and Extension, shared her experience, noting that 12 years ago, she was in the same position as the presenters. She emphasized that her engagement with extension work has been instrumental in her career advancement, mirroring the journeys of the evaluators, many of whom are Professors VI. She encouraged the faculty extension workers to strive for excellence not only for their college and the University but also for their professional growth. Dr. Carig challenged the participants to reflect on the alignment of their projects with the government’s extension agenda, which must address pressing community issues. She also inquired about the needs-based nature of the projects and whether the extension workers are adopting the initiatives accordingly, leading to sustainability.
After the presentation of review mechanics and oral presentation guidelines, participants proceeded to two different rooms for the oral presentation of institutionally and externally funded projects. Dr. Biley E. Temanel and Dr. Perlita N. Medrano commended the faculty members for their professional presentations, offering valuable feedback for the improvement of the extension papers.
The program concluded with the announcement of winners and closing remarks delivered by Dr. Melidiossa V. Pagudpod, Cabarroguis Campus ESCE Director.
Warmest congratulations to the winners and all presenters!
