QSU Officially Opens the 2nd International Virtual Conference on Research, Extension and Innovation
The first day of the much awaited 2nd International Virtual Conference on Research, Extension and Innovation was successfully held yesterday, June 28, via zoom meeting and facebook live. This remarkable event was actively participated by various agencies, organizations, university key officials, researchers, extensionists, innovators, international plenary speakers, faculty and staff, and students from the different campuses and institutions in the country.
President Hermenegildo Samoy, Jr. emphasized the importance of research in the advancement of Higher Education Institutions and the communities these organizations serve. According to President Samoy, the vital role of researches make governments worldwide see HEIs as vital sources of new knowledge and innovation.
“It is through extension activities which are the results of our researches that people feel our presence as college or university. Our research efforts and our existence as learning institutions become relevant when the result truly helps the community”, President Samoy said.
“If we want our researches to be relevant, we need to focus on problems and issues facing society and assess how we can contribute in instituting solutions to it”, he added.
He further encouraged researchers to create an impact to society through researches, extension programs and innovations.
Meanwhile, Governor Dakila Cua, in his inspirational message said that the university should continue to engage in doing research works, designing and developing the most appropriate innovations and conducting more extension activities that can truly provide an impact in the community.
Dr. Elizabeth Carig. VP for Academic, Research and Extension highlighted the rationale of the activity, introduced the participants and panel of evaluators and acknowledged the presence of distinguished guests including the plenary speakers. Moreover, she presented the status, updates and accomplishments of QSU-RDE.
The event was also graced by DOST Undersecretary, Engr. Sancho Mabborang who served as keynote speaker and DENR Regional Executive Director, Dr. Gwendolyn Bambalan and University Director Lauro Aspiras, who delivered their messages.
Three plenary speakers discussed their respective topics on the first day, namely, Dr. Yonariza Guchiano of Andalas University, Indonesia, Dr. Son Thanh Ngo of Hanoi, Vietnam, and Mr. Godwin Enyo Dzekoto of Ghana. Open forum followed after the lecture of the speakers.
Meanwhile, 15 papers were presented. 12 papers in the extension category and three papers in research category.
The event was hosted by two competent and articulate faculty of the university, Ms. Bernadette Cortez and Ms. Geraldine Fernando.
The 2nd International Virtual Conference on Research, Extension and Innovation themed “Creating Impact to the Academe and Beyond” will certainly rekindle the fire among faculty researchers and extensionists to continuously work towards research and extension through various talks from international plenary speakers and presentations of local presenters.
