Quirino State University, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), conducted a graduation ceremony for 72 scholars who have undergone training for Food and Beverage Services NC II (FBS) and Bread and Pastry Production NC II (BPP) this year, on September 13, 2024 at the Amphitheater of Diffun Campus. Trainees who exuded exceptional skills and who transformed their lives through their skills were recognized.
During the graduation ceremony, Dr. Florigold V. Saldaen (Vice President for Administration and Finance), shared a holistic definition of success and the role of healthy competition in achieving it. Meanwhile, Dr. Elizabeth T. Carig (Vice President for Academics, Research, and Extension), explained that one goal of the University is to serve Quirinians by providing trainings that can improve skills, which may elevate peopleโs economic status and eventually contribute to the country’s development.
While recognizing the role of the trainers in honing the skills of the scholars, Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr. (University President) encouraged the graduates to innovate, citing the example of Dr. Jonathan N. Tariga (CHTM Program Chairperson), who created a food product from bamboo shoots. Dr. Tarigaโs output is now a technology that QSU can transfer to potential adopters or entrepreneurs. The President also wished that the next time he sees the graduates, he would be hearing more “kwento na may kuwenta- stories of what they baked, what they experienced, and how it augmented their income.”
In a message shared through Dr. Perla V. Lucas (TESDA Provincial Director), Mr. Tonie June A. Tamayo (TESDA Regional Director) congratulated the graduates on choosing TESDA and QSU as their path to a brighter future. He shared the good news that industry experts and councils suggest that more job opportunities will be created, and these will be readily accessible to them. He added, โThe core mission of TESDA is to transform lives for the better, and this is why we work hard, dahil sa TESDA, kayang kaya.โ
The ceremony proceeded with the confirmation of the graduates by Dr. Perla V. Lucas, followed by the presentation of certificates and medals to the awardees.
As majority of the scholars were composed of the unemployed, homemakers, or others who need to gain entrepreneurial skills, the highlight of the event was the recognition of the scholars who have gainfully applied their skills immediately after training and are now employed or are business owners.
